this is our first site of st. germain, the equivalent of the main drag for us. we stayed in 6th addron('hood} and everything was walking distance. the neighborhoods are arranged in clockwise order, one to twenty something. in order to not sleep the first day, peg's pedometer said 7.5 miles of walking! weather was 70-80 every day, so we were encouraged to walk instead of using the tube. st germain street had been redone in the 19th century to widen it. students at the sorbonne were always protesting something in the old streets, and there was no room for the police to control them, so they did a widening! buildings are not allowed to be any higher than the width of the street. skyscrapers, billboards, neon lights strictly a no-no.
