paris is truly a city of bicycles and scooters. the current mayor has declared war on the car and it has changed attitudes of drivers in the city. i didn't hear even once a car driver screaming, or honking horns at pedestrians. they yeilded and yeilded for pedestrans, and it was refreshing. i'd say cars are only about 40% of the paris traffic. the price of gasoline(approx $8.50US a gallon), of course, encouraged commuters to go to to more economical transportation. the thing most glaring to me was the attitude of auto drivers, definitely passive and polite.
