one of the ladies in our group was from new jersey, and was married to a soldier in the french army. she had two children and said the "magic" number in france to maximize benefits was 4 children.. with 4 children, even transportation was free. the french, of course, are famous for their short(35hrs) work week and long summer holidays. i used to play golf with an executive from esilar corp, a french company that made progressive lenses for glasses. he said unless absolutely necessary, they would never hire a frenchman and preferred most fo their manufacturing and operations be done away from france. he explained the rationale for this was the fact that it was almost impossible for a frenchman to be terminated........
