there's a law that buildings remain the same with their unique historic legacy.. if a new business occupies the building, the old marquee must be preserved. here's an example...............a pastry bakery for ages, now a yuppie dress shop. marais is quickly transforming into an upscale neighborhood for retail. historically a haven for middle-class jews, they are being squeezed out by economic forces. the same thing happened in greenwich village in manhattan.
