the germans were hoodwinked by british double agents into thinking the big invasion would be north in Calais. pre-d-day bombing was 3 times more at calais than normandy to make the krauts think calais was the invasion. there was even a false training location in england, complete with cardboard tanks, air-filled baloon planes and phony soldiers. eisenhower put george patton in command of the phony operation. ike had given patton a time-out after the slapping incident of a soldier in n africa got back to the US press. patton literally cold-cocked the soldier and called him a coward.
