a beemer from the 50's. that bike was used in the desert of north africa by the desert fox, general erwin rommel. notice no rear chain, everything enclosed and it kept all the sand out. a chain wouldn't last a day in the desert. rommel got involved after the first day at normandy, but the allied spy network had worked hard at deception and the germans were never sure that normandy was the main attack or if it would be at calais. a huge panzer division of tanks may have stopped the whole invasion if hitler had released it in time. they called hitler for authorization, but all officers didn't want to disturb his sleep. eisenhower said all he needed was the first 24hrs without the panzers and it would be too late. he got his wish. the tanks weren't deployed. it was later found that rommel, while not participating, knew of the plot to kill hitler and didn't tell him. he was given a choice of trial or cyanide. he took the cyanide.
