France? it must be friday.........eva braun, our gps lady, took us thru a corner of france on our way to the rhine wine country. most of the trip was on the autobahns. a bit about the autobahns. most are similar to our interstates, in no better or worse shape. germans are trained to travel in left lane only when passing, and they adhere to this strictly. in southern germany, slower traffic goes around 80-90mph, with left lane traffic passin at 120mph or so. around frankfurt and in northern germany, all this changes. traffic goes around 100, with lots of porsches and audis passing at 140-150mph. i spent an equal amt of time looking in the mirror as i did looking ahead. around cities, there are posted speed limits. also, even though their are no speed limits in open areas, traffic police can issue tickets if drivers are going too fast for the circumstances.
